The First And Second Coming Of Jesus Christ
In His first coming, Jesus came as a servant. He came to do the will of GOD, to finish His Father's work(John 4:34) and to save that which was lost(Matthew 18:11).

Jesus declared, "The Spirit of the LORD God is upon me(this was prophesied in Isaiah 11:2) because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek: he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD"(Isaiah 61:1-2), "and he closed the book..."(Luke 4:16-21).

Isaiah 61:1-2 is a statement of what Jesus would do in His first coming. To accomplish this, Jesus would fulfill the Law and all the Messianic prophecies. He would suffer and die. His blood would atone for our sins. His soul would be an offering for our sin(Isaiah 53:16); thereby, paying the ransom and our debt.
The words that Jesus spoke from Isaiah 61:1-2 in His first advent, opened the day of grace. The words translated in the KJV as "acceptable year of the LORD", can also be translated as "the year of the LORD's favor".
But the next words of the prophecy in Isaiah 61, which Jesus did not read that day in the synagogue are, "and the day of vengeance of our God". This prophecy will be fulfilled just prior to the second coming of Jesus Christ.
His first coming was to deal with the sin problem so that before "the day of vengeance of our God" occurred, whosoever would repent of their sin and trust and believe in Him would not be condemned but receive a full pardon and be saved in Him.
Jesus will return to the earth the second time when the Father determines that, "the words of God have been fulfilled"(Revelation 17:17). The purpose of His second coming(Zechariah 14:4) will be to stop "the day of vengeance of our God". The Word declares, "and except those days be shortened there shall be no flesh saved: but for the elect's sake these days shall be shortened", Matthew 24:22.
Because He has been found worthy(Revelation 5:9), Jesus is our intercessor, our "Great High Priest"(Hebrews 5:14). He stands(Psalms 24:3) in the chasm between the Father & us, heaven & earth & stays the plague, the curse(Numbers 16:46-50). As the Prince of Peace(Isaiah 9:6) He has established peace between the Father and believers & He will restore peace to the earth. The Word declares, "...and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins", Matthew 1:21; therefore, He will save all those who believe on His name & He will save Israel. As the KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS(Revelation 19:16) He will judge the nations and rule & reign on the earth for a thousand years, Revelation 20:4.
Jesus said, "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved", John 3:17.
Because the law worketh wrath(Romans 4:15) the original tablets of the law were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, the lid of which was called the Mercy Seat. The Mercy Seat has many symbolic meanings, but its main function was to cover the tablets of the law. Once a year the High Priest applied blood to the Mercy Seat so that the law could not testify against the people. Where there is no law there is no sin.
In His first advent Jesus paid the price for our sin. And as our "Great High Priest"(Hebrews 4:14) He applies the blood to the Judgement Seat of GOD, making it a seat of mercy. "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need", Hebrews 4:16. For Jesus Christ has "...delivered us from the wrath to come"(I Thessalonians 1:10).
